What Does “The Greatest Treasure” Mean?
Sometime after Jesus was born, wise men from eastern lands saw an unusual star and understood that a king had been born.
So they went looking for Him.
Their search wasn’t a quick trip across town. They traveled a great distance because finding Jesus mattered enough to make the journey.
When they finally found Him, they were filled with joy. They bowed down and worshiped Jesus and gave Him valuable gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
Those gifts were treasures—but they weren’t the greatest treasure in the room.
Jesus was.
We have things we treasure too. Maybe it’s a favorite toy, something special someone gave us, money we’ve saved, or something we would hate to lose. Those things can be wonderful gifts, but none of them can give us what Jesus gives.
The wise men remind us to seek Jesus and recognize His true worth.
The greatest gift wasn’t what they carried to Jesus.
The greatest gift was the One they found.

The Greatest Treasure reminds us that the most valuable things in life aren’t always things we can hold in our hands.
Things can break, get lost, or eventually stop feeling important.
Jesus gives us something greater: His love, His presence, His forgiveness, and the promise that we belong to Him.
For little ones, the whole story can be remembered in one simple sentence:
“Jesus is my greatest treasure.”
